| Beaty swats two home runs, is a triple shy of cycle in Lion win |

Matt Beaty took two trips over the fence and the Lions survived a scare at the top of the fifth to defeat the West Carroll War Eagles, 17-7, this past Wednesday in Dresden.
The War Eagles started the scoring in the first inning and took an early 1-0 lead. Dresden answered when leadoff batter Gatlin Hatchel singled and Beaty doubled. A line drive to center field from Eric Evans drove in Hatchel and tied the score, 1-1. Chris Peeler singled to score Beaty, made it to second on a Daniel Harris sacrifice grounder and stole third base and home to put Dresden up 3-1 at the end of the first inning.
Hatchel singled to score a run in the second and Beaty followed with his first of two two-run home run smashes of the day to make the score 6-1.
West Carroll closed the gap to three runs in the third, 6-3, and held the Lions scoreless for their half of the inning.
The Dresden bats caught fire again in the fourth, however. Beaty recorded a single and Evans tripled to send Beaty home. Peeler executed a sacrifice bunt to drive in another run. Daniel Janes doubled to the center field fence and Josh Bone turned a routine single into a trip to third base on two errors from West Carroll to score two more runs. Dale Hutcherson singled to drive in Bone and put the Lions up 11-3 after four.
West Carroll came back with four runs at the top of the fifth on four singles and two walks to trail 11-7.
Hatchel singled and Beaty hit his second two-run shot to put Dresden up 13-7. Evans singled and Peeler laid down another successful bunt. Harris drove to the gap in left field to score two runs, Janes walked, Alex Robinson singled and Harris came home on an error. The game ended when Hatchel narrowly missed knocking one over the fence, but drove in another run to give Dresden the 17-7 victory.
In addition to the two home runs, Beaty lacked one hit — a triple — in hitting for the cycle. Winning pitcher Chaz Coleman pitched a complete game and recorded three strikeouts.
