Lady Lions sweep G'field in differing fashions
Lady Lions sweep G'field in differing fashions | Dresden Lady Lions softball, Greenfield Lady Yellowjackets softball, Greenfield, Dresden, Tennessee

In a cloud of dust — Dresden Lady Lion senior Erica Glisson slides safely across home plate while Greenfield Lady Yellowjacket sophomore pitcher Bre Henry tries to control the throw last Wednesday afternoon in Greenfield.
The Dresden Lady Lions earned a sweep of their cross-county rival Greenfield Lady Yellowjackets last Wednesday afternoon.

The twin Dresden wins were about as different games as can get. In the first game of the twinbill, the Lady Lions plated three runs in the top of the fifth to break open a close 4-4 game and take a 7-4 win. In the second game of the day, the Lady Jackets called on some inexperienced pitchers and Dresden took advantage in a big way for a 24-0 win in three innings.

In the first game, Dresden's Courtney McMillin reached base to lead off the game and eventually came around to score for a 1-0 DHS lead.

Greenfield bounced back in the home half of the first to take over the lead. Andrea Smith had a leadoff single. Morgan Bodkins earned her way on base. Both scored to give Greenfield a 2-1 lead after an inning.

In the top of the second, Dresden moved back in front with a pair of runs. Jessica Parsley and Hannah Wade both crossed home plate for a 3-2 Lady Lion lead.

The Lady Lions added a run in the top of the third when Amy Reddick scored for a 4-2 edge.

Greenfield responded in the home half of the third. Jasmine Allen and Bodkins both drew one-out walks. Allen scored an Emily Randolph single up the middle. Jessica Williams' single to left brought Bodkins home for a 4-4 tie score.

After a scoreless fourth, the Lady Lions scratched out three runs in the fifth. An error put Kaci Robbins on first. McMillin followed with an RBI double to left. She moved to third on the throw home and scored on a wild pitch for a 6-4 DHS lead.

After GHS shortstop Smith made a nice catch on a line drive, Melissa Burkeen coaxed a walk. Jessica Parsley drove in the insurance run with a single to center field for a 7-4 lead.

In the home half of the fifth, McMillin retired the side in order for a 7-4 Dresden win.

In the second game, Greenfield head coach Hal Blackman gave two pitchers their first high school pitching opportunities. Katie Caudle and Bre Henry will have better days on the mound for Greenfield.

Dresden jumped on the Lady Jacket hurlers for 24 runs.

Brooke Irvine had an RBI double for DHS in the first and McMillin had a two-run single as the Lady Lions plated seven runs in the first inning.

In the second inning, Dresden used five hits and took advantage of three errors and three walks to score 10 runs for a 17-0 advantage. Robbins drove in two runs with a single to center.

In the third inning, Dresden added seven more runs on four hits and three walks and an error. Irvine drove in two runs with a single to left. Burkeen hit a double to the gap in left center field as the Lady Lion lead grew to a 24-0 margin.

Irvine worked the three innings on the mound for DHS, facing the minimum nine batters.
