UT Martin's Vanguard Theatre to present 'Little Shop of Horrors'

The Messenger 10.25.07

The University of Tennessee at Martin Vanguard Theatre will present its opening performance of “Little Shop of Horrors” at 8 p.m. Nov. 1 on the main stage in the Harriet Fulton Performing Arts Theatre of the Fine Arts Building.
Additional performances will be at 8 p.m. Nov. 2-3 and 3 p.m. Nov. 4.
“Little Shop of Horrors” is one of the longest-running off-Broadway shows of all time, making this affectionate spoof of 1950’s sci-fi movies a household name. A down-and-out skid row floral assistant becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Can fame, fortune and the love of a good woman possibly be worth feeding the growing appetite of an alien creature bent on global domination? This charming, tuneful, hilarious, tongue-planted-firmly-in-cheek musical, never fails to deliver the entertaining answer.
The book and lyrics were written by Howard Ashman with music by Alan Menken.
UT Martin cast members include Jonathan Johnson of Hornbeak, Anne Albrecht of Memphis, Jay Campbell of Martin, Matthew Maitland of Bradford, Matt Cannon of Dickson, Jade Johnson of Paris, Allison Jones of South Fulton and Karen Saldana of Nashville. Also participating in the play are Kassi Abney of Martin, Anna Frederick of Bruceton, Mary Beth French of Paris, Ian Gray of Memphis, Rachel Joost of Union City, Andrew Patterson of Jackson, Lamar Stenson of Halls and Dominique Wilson of Memphis. Musicians for the production include Andrew Moore of South Fulton and Michael Yandell of Martin.
The box office will open at noon Monday. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the Department of Visual and Theatre Arts at (731) 881-7090.
