| Chargers can't string enough hits together to top Choctaws |

The Westview Chargers had a runner on base in each of the first three innings, but never could put enough licks on the ball to bring a run home in a 4-0 loss to the Dyer County Choctaws in the District 13-AA Baseball Tournament Monday night in Newbern.
"We knew we were going to have to keep it a low-scoring game, but we couldn't get anything going on offense," WHS head coach Brian Allen said.
WHS will next play on Wednesday with the foe, location and start time yet to be set.
The loss came after the Chargers picked up a 7-1 win over Obion County in their tourney debut on Thursday night. In that win over the OC Rebels, a triple play definitely shifted the momentum to the WHS dugout.
Against Dyer County, in a game that was originally scheduled for Friday night in Milan but delayed and moved due to heavy rains in the area, the Choctaws broke a scoreless tie when Chad Gammons ripped a two-out solo homer over the left field fence for a 1-0 DC lead. It appeared the Choctaws would have a bigger inning when WHS starter Bryton Ramsey gave up a walk and an error put runners at first and third. However, Ramsey fielded a grounder to the mound for the third out to keep the Charger deficit at 1-0.
Dyer County added three runs for a 4-0 lead in the fifth. A hit batter, two walks, an error and a single did the damage.
The Chargers' best chance to score came in the top of the sixth inning. Alex Parham, after making a nice diving catch in the gap the previous inning, drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a passed ball. Taylor Weber moved Parham to third with a groundout to the right side for the first out. Parham was stranded at third on a lineout to shortstop and a groundout for the third out.
Westview managed just three singles by Adam Garner, Drake Copeland and Blake Parham against DC starter Shea Thomas.
In the win over Obion County, the Chargers turned the rare defensive gem to flip the momentum in the second inning. The Rebels got a leadoff double and a bloop single to put runners on first and second. A deep shot hooking to the corner in left was snared near the line by WHS left fielder Ramsey. With the OC runners trying to retreat, Ramsey threw back to second baseman Madison Hughey who stepped on the bag and then fired a throw to first baseman Andrew Fisher who had a toe on first base for the third out.
Westview took the lead with two runs in the third. Weber put down a bunt on a squeeze for a RBI and Adam Garner drove in a run with a double. Ramsey and Blake Parham scored.
The Westview lead reached 4-0 in the fourth inning when Copeland doubled and scored on a Ramsey single. Alex Parham drove in Ramsey with a single.
The Rebels got their lone run in the sixth with four base hits.
WHS retaliated with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Ramsey, Blake Parham and Alex Parham each touched home plate. In the at-bat, Alex Parham and Hughey both drove in a run as Westview moved ahead 7-1, the eventual final score.
