In their 2009 postseason debut, the Westview Lady Chargers wasted little time in taking care of the Dyer County Lady Choctaws, winning 4-0 in the District 13-AA tourney Tuesday evening in Dyer.
Seeking their third consecutive trip to the state tournament, the Lady Chargers rode a strong mound effort by sophomore Shaylon Robb to the win. Robb struck out the first six batters she faced and seven of the first nine batters. She finished the game whiffing 11 Lady Choctaws while giving up three hits and one walk.
Robb got all the run support she'd need in the bottom of the first inning. Kelly Gaston drew a leadoff walk and scored on Robb's one-out double down the third base line. Sam Giesler fought through an 0-2 count and drove in Robb with a single up the middle for a 2-0 lead.
Westview plated its other two runs in the fourth with three singles and a sacrifice bunt. Ashley Bynum and Grace Ann Swaim scored on Mckenzie Norris' two-run single for a 4-0 win.
The Lady Chargers will next take on Crockett County on Thursday evening and then play again on Friday at Dyer.
