DHS championship chase halted
DHS championship chase halted | Dresden Lions baseball, Gatlin Hatchel, Daniel Harris, District 14-A, Dresden, Tennessee

Slide — Dresden's Gatlin Hatchel (right) slides toward home plate while Lion teammate Daniel Harris heads up the first base line during District 14-A tourney action Wednesday. The Lions were shut out by Halls 7-0 to end their season.
Scoring six runs in the first inning, the Halls Tigers put the contest away early and shut out Dresden, 7-0, to eliminate the Lions from District 14-A championship contention Wednesday night in Union City.
Halls advances to the district title game vs. Greenfield at 5 on Thursday in Union City.
Coming off a marathon 10-inning 1-0 loss to Greenfield the night before, Dresden’s best chance at scoring against Halls came in the first inning. Lion Gatlin Hatchel led off with a walk, and Matt Beaty doubled to the deepest part of the park, the center field fence, advancing Hatchel to third. After Eric Evans and Chris Peeler struck out, the Lions tried to squeeze Hatchel home, but Daniel Harris grounded out to end the top of the first inning.
In the Tigers’ first at-bat, Halls pitcher Dane Smith drew a leadoff walk and then the Tigers picked up five hits to take a 6-0 lead after one inning.
It was three up and three down for the Lions in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings.
Halls put another run on the board in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 7-0. With no more runs scored for either team, the Tigers made it final in the top of the seventh.
On the day the Lions finished with two hits and four errors including three errors made in the first inning.
Seniors on the Lion roster finishing their high school athletic career included Eric Evans, Austin Evans, Chris Peeler, Zach Garner and Ben Heustis.
