Dresden native still serving U.S. forces
A highly decorated military retiree and Dresden native has filled a new responsibility working with the United States Navy.
Ivan D. Bradley has been assigned as the first Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Team Lead for Millington to improve efficiencies and eliminate waste in processes. The Navy Recruiting Command launched the Lean Six Sigma initiative earlier this year. The Department of the Navy has reported the program has already saved the Navy millions of dollars in such a short time.
Bradley is a 1982 graduate of Dresden High School and a 1986 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering technology. Since then, he has made his mark in the United States Armed Forces.
This Army veteran has served his country in the ranks and in support roles during his 20 years with the United States Army.
He is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 3d Infantry Division. According to a press release issued by the Navy Recruiting Command, the 3rd Infantry Division was the first unit to enter Baghdad covering more ground in less time in history for an armored force of its size.
In 2003, Bradley was awarded the Bronze Star and Presidential Unit Citation for his service in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
His lengthy history with the military includes assignments from Fort Knox, Ky. to Bosnia. Bradley’s many roles have placed him in a variety of countries around the world including, Plans and Exercises Officer, 21st Theater Support Command in Kaiserslautern, Germany; Executive Officer, 703rd Main Support Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division of Fort Stewart, Ga.; Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Army Central Command in Camp Doha, Kuwait; Futures Training Officer, Ordnance Center and School, Redstone Arsenal in Alabama; Logistics Officer, Crisis Action team, Headquarters United States Army in Heidelberg, Germany; Logistics Officer, Center for Army Lessons Learned in Tuzla, Bosnia; Company Commander, Bravo Company, 526th Forward Support Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Maintenance Operations Officer and Platoon Leader, 703rd Main Support Battalion in Nuremburg, Germany.
His most recent role will challenge Bradley as a civilian with vast knowledge of military operations. The Lean Six Sigma initiative was designed to streamline business functions, reduce waste and improve efficiency within Navy recruiting.
Bradley serves as the program analyst for the recently developed Mid-South Lean Six Sigma located in Millington.
The Dresden native was recently promoted from GS 11 (YA1) to GS 12 (YA2) as a program analyst for Navy Officer Recruiting West, which oversees all applicants west of the Mississippi River including Alaska, Hawaii and Guam. His project in Millington now includes the processing of all applications to become Commissioned Officers in the Navy.
Bradley retired as a lieutenant colonel from the United States Army after serving 20 years. Among his decorations for his time of service, Bradley was awarded the Legion of Merit; four Meritorious Service Medals; three Army Commendation Medals; the Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Star; two Army Achievement Medals; the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star; the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; the NATO Service Ribbon; the Parachutist Badge and the Air Assault Badge.
He is a Sigma Alpha Epsilon alumni member of the Tennessee Tau Chapter on the UT Martin campus. Bradley has two children, 13-year-old Blake and 19-year-old Michelle. He currently lives in Drummonds. His parents are William and Shirley Bradley of Dresden and Michelle and Russell Brown of Martin.
