UT Martin rodeo team brings in four signees
UT Martin rodeo team brings in four signees | UT Martin rodeo, John Luthi, UTM rodeo, UT Martin, Martin, Tennessee

John Luthi
John Luthi, the head rodeo coach at the University of Tennessee at Martin, signed four members, three saddle bronc riders and a calf roper, to his team. All four signees should make an impact during the 2010 season.
The signees are Chase Miller, from Ogallala, Neb.; Ty Hughston, from McBain, Mich.; Tyler Waltz from Jersey Shore, Pa.; and Jordan Thrasher from Culleoka, Tenn.
Miller will transfer to UTM from Ranger (Texas) Junior College. He was a member of the 2007 Ranger team that won the 2007 College National Finals Rodeo. He will work the saddle bronc and team roping events.
“Chase is a very talented bronc rider,” Luthi said. “I am excited to have him coming to UT Martin. He will come in and have an immediate impact on our team.”
Hughston will be a true freshman on the team. He is a three-time state champion bronc rider, claiming the Michigan honor in 2006, ‘07 and ‘08.
“I am happy to be able to bring Ty as a freshman,” Luthi said. “Ty has a great deal of talent. I believe he will continue to get better and better.”
Walsh, also a freshman, will work the saddle bronc, along with bareback, bull riding, steer wrestling and team roping.
“Tyler is a multi-event cowboy who does many events well,” Luthi said. If the Walsh name sounds familiar that’s because Tyler’s father is a UTM alumnus. “I am excited that Tyler wants to follow in his dad’s footsteps. I believe Tyler will definitely be an asset to our program.”
Walsh is a two-time PHSRA All-Around champion and he qualified in five events in the 2008 National High School Finals Rodeo.
