'How do you thank someone for saving the world?'
'How do you thank someone for saving the world?' | Flag Day ceremony, Martin, American Legion, Field of Flags, Weakley County Carl Perkins Center

Weakley County Carl Perkins Advisory Board President Stacey Hicks and Led Symmes of Martin
Sunday was a day of remembrance and celebration as members of the community gathered to pay their respects to local heroes.
Many may have noticed the Field of Flags displayed along University Street in Martin on the UT Martin campus.
The event was a partnership of several businesses and organizations to help raise money for the local Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse.
At the same time, local residents could honor their freinds and family members by sponsoring a flag in someone's honor.
Members of the Martin Cub Scout Pack 37 were charged with taking the flags down from the Field of Flags and folding them over the weekend to be presented to those veterans who were sponsored.
Rolling Thunder® TN Chapter 6 members joined together to transport the final flag left standing on Sunday to the Martin American Legion.
Their reverent ride was chaperoned by Martin Police Department officers as they rode down University Street before arriving at the Legion.
"How do you thank someone for saving the world?" Retired Tn Army National Guard Major and Chaplain David B. Russell of Union City, asked those who gathered Sunday afternoon at the Martin American Legion in celebration of Flag Day.
"Saying 'thank you' may seem woefully inadequate, but it's a good start," Russell added.
After presenting flags to sponsors of the event with the final flag going to Army Spc. 1st Class and president of the Martin American Legion Post Steve Robinson, Weakley County Carl Perkins Director Lori Hendon ended Sunday's ceremony with commendation for those who participated and said the flags never gave up, even while enduring harsh weather conditions day in and day out, just like "our soldiers" never gave up.
The event was hosted by the Martin American Legion; Sons of the American Legion and the Auxiliary.
Sponsors of the event were Rolling Thunder® TN Chapter 6, City of Martin, Vowell and Sons, First Citizens Bank, the Law Office of Kent Gearin, General Supply Co., Office Products Inc., Michael Wright, Sgt. Marty Ables, Stacey Hicks, Keith Jones and Marvin Flatt.
