Dyersburg State Community College will host a picnic and orientation Monday for students taking part in the DSCC Honors Program and their parents.
At the picnic, DSCC President Karen Bowyer will announce the use of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds to offer up to 20 Honors Scholars scholarships worth as much as $3,000 each.
“Educating students is the best way to help America recover,” Dr. Bowyer said of the use of the ARRA funds allotted to Dyersburg State.
The picnic will begin at 5:30 p.m. and is being held on the patio of the new Student Center on the Dyersburg campus. DSCC Honors Program Committee chairman Dave Strong, DSCC Dean of Arts and Sciences Kay Patterson and Honors Program faculty members will be on hand to answer questions.
In order to qualify for the DSCC Honors Program, recent high school graduates must have a minimum ACT score of 26; have a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale; and be accepted as a first-time, degree-seeking student at DSCC.
Once accepted to the Honors Program, scholars are required to attend orientation; take one honors course per semester; complete 12 hours of honors coursework at DSCC; and complete a culminating honors project.
For more information about the DSCC Honors Program, contact admissions counselor Larenda Fultz at (731) 286-3350 or fultz@dscc.edu.
