Dresden's Dunn to lead WNBA All-Star team
Dresden's Dunn to lead WNBA All-Star team | Lin Dunn, Indiana Fever, WNBA, WNBA all-stars, Dresden, Tennessee

Lin Dunn
Weakley County native Linn Dunn has added another accolade to her impressive basketball coaching resume.
Dunn, the head coach of the Indiana Fever in the WNBA, earned the right to work the sideline as the head coach of the league’s Eastern Conference All-Star team.
Normally, the head coach of the previous season’s conference champion leads the glitter squad, but Bill Laimbeer, head coach of the 2008 Eastern Conference champion Detroit Shock team, is no longer with the defending champs.
Dunn takes over the all-star reins as a result of a WNBA rule that states the coach of the team in the conference with the best winning percentage through July 15 will lead the all-star team. Dunn’s Fever has already leapt to the forefront of the standings with a 9-2 record and a winning percentage of 0.818, well ahead of the Washington Mystics’ record of 6-5 and 0.545 success rate.
The Dresden native and UT Martin graduate is in her second season as the head coach of the WNBA franchise since taking the Fever job in December of 2007. Prior to that she spent four seasons with the team as an assistant coach.
Dunn’s Fever made the playoffs last year as the fourth seed in the East before falling in their best-of-three semifinal match-up with Detroit.
Dan Hughes of the San Antonio Silver Stars, the 2008 Western Conference Champions, will lead Dunn’s opposition.
This is the second time in WNBA history that this method of coach selection has been used. This method was last used when John Whisenant, head coach and general manager of the 2006 Western Conference champion Sacramento Monarchs, relinquished his coaching role the following year to focus on his front office duties.
The 2009 WNBA All-Star Game will be played on Saturday, July 25 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., and will be televised nationally on ABC at 2:30 p.m. CT.
