| Elm Street fire ruled arson |

A fire that destroyed a building on Elm Street in Martin has been ruled an arson. According to an incident report by the Martin Fire Department, the department was called to 764 Elm St. at 9:16 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8 for a report of a structure fire. The fire was “venting” from the roof of the building that housed S and S Outdoor when the department arrived on the scene. After more than three hours on the scene, the fire was extinguished and an investigation was conducted. According to MFD Chief Russell Schwahn, the fire was deemed arson on Friday by the Tennessee Bomb and Arson Unit investigator. Schwahn stated the incident is still under investigation and no other details are available at this time. The building is owned by Marvin Alexander. According to the incident report, the estimated loss was almost $77,000. The Sharon, Union City and South Fulton fire departments provided mutual aid during the blaze which coincided with another structure fire on Carter Street that evening. WCP 10.30.07 |
