Jenkins pleads guilty to child sex crime
A Greenfield man accused of raping a 10-year-old pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault on Thursday in Weakley County Circuit Court.
Junior Thomas Jenkins, 44, of Greenfield was arrested Aug. 31, 2008 for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old child in a clay pit off of Liberty Road outside of Greenfield.
According to a press release issued at the time by the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department, physical evidence found at the scene, along with evidence from Jenkins’ cell phone, linked him to the child rape.
He was indicted by the Weakley County Grand Jury in September 2008 for the Class A felony charge of child rape.
Jenkins pleaded guilty to the lesser included charge of Class B aggravated sexual battery last week. 27th Judicial District Circuit Court Judge William Acree sentenced Jenkins to 18 years with the Tennessee Department of Corrections.
His sentence will run concurrent to a federal 18-year sentence for child pornography as a result of the child rape investigation.
Jenkins was also ordered to register as a sex offender with the state and will remain on community supervision for life.
Jenkins was represented by Weakley County Assistant Public Defender Colin Johnson.
