Friday benefit planned for Zack Terry
A July 24 fund raiser will assist a Dresden teenager who has been hospitalized in Nashville since May as he waits for a new heart.
Zack Terry was diagnosed in 2008 with dilated cardiomyopathy, or enlargement of the heart, while he was a junior at Dresden High School.
He has been on the national donor list since January of last year.
The teen will remain at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital until a donor organ is available for transplant.
The Stable, the Martin American Legion, The Martin American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion (SAL) and Rolling Thunder are holding a fund raiser this Friday to help assist the family offset expenses while Zack remains hospitalized.
The SAL took orders over the past two weeks for Boston butts and pork tenderloins which will be ready for delivery or pickup on Friday at the Martin American Legion Post 55 on Central Avenue.
For additional information contact 731-587-4886 or 731-587-5605.
Karaoke for Zack will begin at 9 p.m. with Larry Morgan that evening.
The Stable, located on S. Lindell Street in Martin, will also be hosting a luau dinner Friday consisting of grilled chicken with all the trimmings in a full meal with all proceeds going to the Terry Family.
The event begins at 5 p.m. Volunteer Distributing will also be on hand at both locations offering beer tastings at tiki huts as well as prizes.
Contact Brenda Callahan or Sherri Leggins at 587-5605 for updated information.
“We want people to visit both locations in our combined effort to raise money for Zack,” Leggins said.
“The response from the community in wishing to assist has been overwhelming and we have already began to receive some cash donations ahead of time. It’s truly special to see so many people who want to help.”
Zack Terry is the son of Tracy Spain-Robbins and Rick Terry, and the grandson of the Dresden American Legion’s long-time manager, Jerry Spain.
T-shirts commemorating the event will also be available at both locations for $10, as well as the Dresden American Legion, for purchase on the evening of the fund raiser.
Cash donations may be mailed to: Benefit for Zack Terry, c/o Sherri Leggins, 230 S. Lindell St., Martin, TN 38237.
