Over $1 million raised during DSCC campaign

The Messenger 08.26.09 The final numbers are in and, through the generosity of area residents, companies and friends, Dyersburg State Community College raised $1,007,226 in its year-long Annual Fund Campaign. The money raised will be used to fund scholarship, academic and capital needs at the college. “We are pleased to announce that 93 percent of our DSCC faculty and staff members participated in the overall campaign and donated a total of $30,751.55. This is the largest dollar amount given by our faculty and staff in the history of the Annual Fund Campaign,” said Tina Morris, DSCC’s vice president for institutional advancement. The 2008-09 overall campaign chair was Wendell West, president and chief executive officer of Colonial Diversified Polymer Products, LLC. He was assisted in Gibson County by area chairs Bill Woods, a retired banker, and Joel Reynolds, president of Farmers and Merchants Bank. In Tipton County, Sheila Barton, community bank president of Clayton Bank and Trust Company, along with Jim Wyatt, community bank president of the Southwest Tennessee Region for First State Bank, Atoka, served as area chairs. The Dyer County chair was Danny Watson, community bank president of First State Bank. In 2009-10, the Annual Fund Campaign will be led by Watson. The DSCC Annual Fund was established in 1985 and Ed Lannom Jr. served as its first chair. During the past 24 years, over $10.8 million has been raised, with the money invested in this region mainly for scholarships and academic programs.
