The Blessed Piecemakers Quilt Guild recently donated 27 lap quilts for the children of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. These were presented to The Forked Deer Wings motorcycle chapter of Jackson. The guild meets at The Stitchin Post at 514 South First St. in Union City the first Thursday night of each month. If interested in learning more about the Blessed Piecemakers Quilt Guild, call the Stitchin Post at 885-1800 or Sandra Harris at 885-0651. The quilts will be delivered Oct. 3 to St. Jude as part of The Wings Across Tennessee. This is an annual event for the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. They deliver donations raised throughout the year for St. Jude. The ride starts on Oct. 2 in Johnson City, which is in East Tennessee, and ends the following day at St. Jude. GWRRA averages approximately $100,000 per year in monetary donations, in addition to caps, lap quilts and other items donated. To answer the question, “What do sick children, quilting and motorcycle enthusiasts have in common?” a spokesman said it is the unselfish offering of time, talents and money in the ongoing search of a cure for cancer in children. If anyone is interested in learning more about the GWRRA, contact chapter director Cathy Webb at (731) 479-2167 for more information. Published in The Messenger 9.11.09
