G'field defensive effort not enough
G'field defensive effort not enough | West Carroll War Eagles football, Travis Myles, Cody Nelson, Bracey Myles, Brady Medling Greenfield High School Yellowjackets football, Brody Cogburn, Greenfield, Tennessee

Game changer — West Carroll's Bracey Myles (left) picks off a pass in the end zone in front of Greenfield's Brady Medling to thwart the Yellowjackets' comeback attempt in a 16-0 loss.
GREENFIELD, Tenn. — While the Greenfield Yellow-jackets' defense was stalwart, their offense was still lacking in a 16-0 loss to the visiting West Carroll War Eagles (3-0) Friday night at Harris Field.
The War Eagles came in averaging 30 points per game. The Jackets, though they did allow some key fourth-down conversions, came up with a huge goal-line stand to keep their deficit at a touchdown at the half. Brody Cogburn led GHS with 15 solo tackles and two assisted tackles.
"I can't say enough about our defense and how hard they played. West Carroll is a very talented team. This is two weeks in a row the defense has allowed just two scores," GHS head coach Jason Rodehaver said.
The Greenfield offense (0-3) didn't keep up its end of the bargain, accumulating just 81 total yards and six first downs.
"Our offense looked like they were in different time zones. We were lost. I take responsibility for that as the coach. We're gonna go back and get ready for next week," Rodehaver stated.
West Carroll's offense initially had the upper hand, taking the opening kickoff and marching 58 yards in 13 plays in a drive that lasted 6:20. Bracey Myles slipped a tackle at the line and raced 14 yards for the score. Eagle QB Cody Nelson ran in the two-pointer for an 8-0 lead.
After trading punts, the home team was pinned deep in its own territory and facing another fourth down. Jacket punter Ben Woods, who averaged 31.5 yards on six punts, came up with a boomer, but was forced to punt again due to a penalty. His 26-yard second punt didn't match the first, giving West Carroll the ball at the Jacket 37.
The War Eagles marched in and converted a fourth down to set up first-and-goal at the 1, but the Jackets held firm. After tackles for losses by Cogburn and Tyler Dunning, Bracey Myles was stopped just shy of the end zone on third down. On fourth-and-goal at the 1, Chris McMullen hauled down Travis Myles for a three-yard loss to end the threat and keep the West Carroll lead at 8-0 at the half.
West Carroll scored on its first possession of the third when Travis Myles caught a swing pass and bulled his way to the end zone. Colby Cooper ran in the two-pointer for a 16-0 lead.
The teams swapped punts through the third and into the fourth. Greenfield's best drive saw the Jackets reach the WC 12 late in the fourth before Ty Smithson's pass to Brady Medling was picked off in the end zone by Bracey Myles.
