Lions return to winning ways
Lions return to winning ways | Dresden Lions football, Zach Jolley, Gibson County Pioneers, Dyer, Sherrod Johnson, Dale Hutcherson, Dresden, Tennessee

Four scores — Lion running back Zach Jolley, here trying to break loose against Greenfield, pushed his way across the goal line four times in Dresden's 54-27 win over the host Gibson County Pioneers Friday night in Dyer.
DYER, Tenn. — The Dresden Lions responded to all the doubters who expected the team to struggle after suffering its first loss of the season in Week 2.
Dresden (3-1, 0-1 District 13-A) roared out of the gate with six first-half touchdowns on the way to blasting the host Gibson County Pioneers 54-27 on Friday night.
Senior running back Zach Jolley had another strong night, finishing with the Lions' first three scores and four in total. Jolley ran 15 times for 96 yards.
Keeping the Pioneers (0-3, 0-1 District 13-AA) off balance, Dresden quarterback Dale Hutcherson also left his mark. The junior signal caller was  nearly perfect, hitting on 12-of-15 passes for 175 yards with no interceptions. Three of his completions went for touchdowns.
The Lion defense also did its part, picking off three Pioneer passes, recovering a fumble and blocking an extra point kick. Daniel Harris returned the final interception 70 yards for a TD in the third quarter.
Dresden took the game's opening kickoff and needed just over two minutes to take the lead. After a 37-yard return by Drew Brown, the Lions marched 46 yards to paydirt. Jolley had a 25-yard rumble and scored on a 3-yarder. The kick was off target for a 6-0 lead with just over two minutes in the books.
The Lions never looked back. Jolley capped the next two drives with TD runs of 1 and 5 yards. Tyler Morefield added the PATs for a 20-0 lead after a quarter.
After the Pioneers got on the board with a 16-yard run by Sherrod Johnson, Hutcherson notched the next two DHS scores on a 55-yard pass to Colin Kanehl and an 8-yard strike to Isaac Butler. A Jolley 25-yard TD run closed out first-half scoring for a 40-7 Lion halftime lead.
Gibson County scored early in the third quarter, but the Lions never really faltered in taking the 54-27 win.
