MPD investigates car burglary, vandalism
Two local business were the recent targets of a theft and a vandalism.
On Thursday, MPD officers responded to Weakley County Motors for a report of a car that had been taken from the lot.
According to an incident report, owner Larry Alexander reported that 38-year-old Tammy Blackburn had pulled into the parking lot that morning asking to drive a 2004 silver Nissan Maxima to First State Bank in Union City to purchase the vehicle.
Blackburn is a resident of Union City.
After several hours, Alexander contacted the bank and was told no one there had spoken with Baker about the vehicle, according to the report.
A BOLO was issued for the vehicle, which was later found by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department in Hickman, Ky.
The Maxima, valued at approximately $18,000 was towed back to Martin by Harper’s Wrecker Service. Blackburn turned herself into authorities on Friday.
A second incident on Friday has MPD investigators searching for a suspect wanted in connection with the vandalism of Huck’s food store.
Officers responded to the store around 2 a.m. on Friday after the store’s alarm sounded.
According to the incident report, officers found the front glass window of the store broken and a large rock sitting on the window sill.
Next to the broken window, officers also found broken boxes of Coke that were knocked over during the incident.
The store’s manager told officers she believed nothing had been taken from the store, according to the report.
Video footage showed a heavy set black male wearing dark blue jeans and a white tank top entered the store through the broken window and exited when the alarm sounded, according to the incident report.
The incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the MPD at 587-5355.
