G'field's McCall inks to play tennis at UTM
G'field's McCall inks to play tennis at UTM | Greenfield High School, Katie McCall, UT Martin, UTM, University of Tennessee at Martin, Dennis Taylor, OVC, Ohio Valley Conference, Teresa McCall, Katie McCall, Bill McCall, Willie Trevathan

UTM Bound — Greenfield High School's Katie McCall will play tennis at UT Martin. On hand were (front, from left) her mother and GHS tennis coach Teresa McCall, Katie McCall, her father and coach Bill McCall and (back) Greenfield AD Willie Trevathan.
MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin head tennis coach Dennis Taylor has announced the signing of Katie McCall to a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Skyhawks beginning in the 2010 fall season.
Taylor didn’t have to look very far to find McCall, who is entering her senior season at nearby Greenfield High School.
“Normally I have to recruit all around the world to find someone with the academic and athletic standards to play at this level,” Taylor said. “It was nice to find one within just a few miles from our campus. I have known Katie’s parents all my life and it will be a privilege to get to work with her.”
McCall is considered one of the area’s top players, as her stellar career began as an eighth-grader playing No. 1 singles and doubles on the Greenfield High School varsity team in 2006. From that point on, McCall has improved every season, as she has gone 64-9 in singles play over her first four seasons, including a 48-2 record in the regular-season.
In district singles play over the last two seasons, McCall has been perfect – running her record to 34-0 in her sophomore and junior years.
A four-time all-district selection and four-time member of the Jackson Sun All-West Tennessee Girls Tennis team, McCall was the district singles runner-up in 2006 and 2007 before winning the district singles championship each of the last two seasons.
McCall also was a regional singles semifinalist as an eighth-grader and a freshman before earning a finalist spot in 2008 and 2009.
Off the court, McCall has earned the Tennessee Scholar distinction each of her four years at Greenfield High School, and was also a Wendy’s Heisman Award recipient in 2009.
McCall has lettered all four years for the Greenfield High School Lady Yellowjackets basketball squad, where she won the team’s Best All-Around Player award in 2007-08 and was named the team’s Best Defensive Player in 2008-09.
