E.W. James and Sons, based in Union City, has announced the opening of a new type of store in Gleason.
Kimberly’s Market — which offers a neighborhood shopping experience, complete with a deli operation and fuel — is now open for business at 545 South Union St. in Gleason, according to Lee Ann James, chief executive officer of E.W. James and Sons.
Ms. James said the new 5,000-square-foot ultra-convenience store will offer fresh meat, produce and dairy items, along with hot and cold prepared foods and a drive-through window.
“The new store was worth the wait. We’re excited about the concept of Kimberly’s Market,” she said. “Now that the store has gone from paper to reality, we hope that the people of the Gleason area will be just as excited to shop there.”
Kimberly’s Market is a new venture for the company and is named after Ms. James’ only daughter, who was adopted from Mataglapa, Nicaragua. Her handprints and signature mark the concrete at the entrance to the store.
“Kimberly was born Dec. 28, 2001, and is the reflection of the design concept — bright, spunky and very happy,” Ms. James said.
Ken Pink, president and chief operating officer, said company officials are extremely pleased with how the store turned out.
“Kimberly’s is an exciting endeavor for us and we’re looking forward to growing this segment of our business in communities that need a hometown market rather than a limited offering of products,” he said. “We’ve teamed with Kentucky Lake Oil Company to offer Shell gasoline and associated products at the store. The gas pumps will operate 24 hours with credit or debit cards.”
Kimberly’s features a sub shop called eDubs Subs, Charley Biggs Chicken, Pizza Pro and other sandwich selections, along with gourmet coffee and breakfast sandwiches.
Hours of operation are Mondays through Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Belinda Call is the store manager and her staff includes assistant manager Justin Suddath, deli manager Amy Kail, Justin Bowles, Michelle Davis, David Donnell, Marsha Foley and Lucy Winstead.
For more information, call the store at (731) 648-9427.
