Members of the Dyersburg State Community College Hispanic Awareness Recruitment Team are currently working on a new DSCC service program — Help Me Read — that will help Hispanic children improve their reading skills in English.
Through Help Me Read, adults or children who are in need of English skills are matched with a tutor who will assist them in learning to read in English. Tutoring sessions will be held weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5 p.m. in the Learning Resource Center on campus.
While the Help Me Read program will be of service to the area’s growing Hispanic community, other nationalities are also welcome.
Volunteers are being sought to serve as tutors and donations of children’s books are needed.
For more information, call (731) 286-3377 or e-mail Garcia@dscc.edu.
