Two students from South Fulton were among those who graduated during fall commencement exercises at Middle Tennessee State University.
Lindsey Brook McDaniel was awarded a bachelor of social work degree and Jason E. Nelms was awarded a master of science degree.
Of the 1,633 who graduated during the 98th fall commencement, 1,398 were undergraduates and 235 were graduate students, including 218 master’s candidates, 12 Education Specialist recipients and five Ph.D. candidates.

Dr. Sandy A. Mehlhorn of Martin was recently awarded a doctor of philosophy degree from the University of Memphis during an afternoon commencement ceremony at the Fed Ex Forum.
Her major professor was Dr. Martin E. Lipinski of the Department of Civil Engineering and her dissertation was “Method of Prioritizing Highway Routes for Reconstruction After a Natural Disaster.”
She received her bachelor of science degree in civil engineering in 1996 from Mississippi State University and her master of science in civil engineering in 1997 from Mississippi State.
A licensed professional engineer, she is currently employed at the University of Tennessee at Martin in the Agricultural Engineering Department.
She and her husband, Dr. Joey Mehlhorn, are the parents of a son, Robert, and a daughter, Elizabeth.
She is the daughter of Sandra Powell of Martin and Doug Powell of Union City. Her grandparents are Hazel Powell and the late Allen Powell and Neal and Sarah Rice, all of Union City.
