Dyersburg State Community College and the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Martin Luther King Jr. luncheon at noon Jan. 15 in the Student Center on the Dyersburg campus.
The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. R. Michelle Skinner of Collierville, the regional medical head of Novartis Pharmaceutical.
A graduate of the former Kenton High School, Dr. Skinner received her bachelor of science degree from the University of Tennessee and her PharmD degree from the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences. She completed a pharmacy practice residency with an emphasis in ambulatory care at Regional Medical Center in Memphis.
Upon completion of her residency, she became a member of the faculty at the University of Maryland in the College of Pharmacy, where she developed and maintained a clinical practice at St. Agnes, Daughters of Charity Hospital in Baltimore. In this position, she trained students and residents and taught clinical therapeutics coursework.
After leaving the Univer-sity of Maryland, Dr. Skinner entered the pharmaceutical industry in drug regulatory and medical affairs. With her position at Novartis Pharmaceuticals, she oversees operations throughout the South Central Region of the United States and 11 doctorate level Scientific Directors who report to her.
She has received numerous business excellence awards during her tenure.
An ordained minister, she serves as the assistant pastor at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Kenton.
Tickets for the Martin Luther King Jr. luncheon are $10 each and must be purchased in advance. They are on sale until 4:30 p.m. Jan. 12 at the DSCC business office, located in the Eller Building on the Dyersburg campus, and at the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce.
