| Atnip tops 1,000-point plateau for Lady Lynx |

Becky Atnip, senior point guard for Rhodes College in Memphis and a former standout on the Greenfield High School basketball team, scored her 1,000th career point for the Lady Lynx on Jan. 9. Atnip becomes only the 11th player in Rhodes history to score 1,000 points.
Atnip scored 18 points for the game which was a win over Birmingham-Southern. As of Jan. 9, Atnip was the leading scorer in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, averaging 16.9 points per game. She is second in the SCAC in free-throw percentage, completing 91 percent of her shots from the charity stripe. Atnip is third in the conference in assist/turnover ratio, second in the conference in 3-point field goals made, sixth in overall assists, and first in the conference in minutes played per game.
“Becky has been such a joy to coach these past four years,” Lynx head coach Matt Dean said. “You will not find a player anywhere that works harder than Becky Atnip.”
On hand to witness Atnip’s 1,000th-career-point game was her former Greenfield school principal, Jackie Vaughan, and his wife Amy Vaughan.
“Amy and I have traveled to Memphis to watch Becky play at least one game each of her four years. We were fortunate to get to see her score her 1,000th point. We are so proud of her athletic and academic career at Rhodes, just as we were of her career at Greenfield,” Vaughan said Also present were Becky’s former assistant basketball coach at Greenfield — Don Durden — and his wife Kay.
“I watched her hit her 1,000th point in high school,” Durden said. “And now I’ve seen her hit her 1,000th point in college. What an honor it has been for me to have known Becky these many years and to watch her thrive both academically and athletically. She’s a star on and off the court.”
