Rippy serves as speaker at Delphian Review Club

The Delphian Review Club held its January meeting in the home of Ann Cameron. Sixteen members were present.
President Carolyn Bloebaum presided over the business meeting. For the “thought of the day,” a poem entitled “I Am Resolved” was recited by chaplain Maggie Vaughan.
Vice president Sue Greer introduced the guest speaker, Jim Rippy, who gave a fascinating program on Egypt. It was drawn from experiences he and his wife, Martha, a club member, had on their trip there. He was assisted by Terri Harrison with a Power Point presentation. The detailed narrative embraced the geography, climate and antiquity of the land; the importance of the Nile River; and vivid descriptions  of many temples, pyramids and tombs. He also emphasized the religions and political history of Egypt and gave a brief glimpse of the Egypt of today, including their near escape from a bombing on the last day of the trip. Rippy said, “Recorded history for the past 6,000 years reminds us that the Nile River is and has been the lifeblood of Egypt. For a look back in time and a better understanding of many of the cultures, we have inherited, visit Egypt.”
Rippy then gave a brief update on the state of Obion County as a follow-up to a previous program he gave given the club.
Following the program, members and guests enjoyed a dessert of chocolate brownie cheesecake with coffee, served by co-hostess Carolyn Bloebaum.
