Ex-Central boss Greer
resigns Atwood post

West Carroll head boys’ coach and former Obion Central skipper Mike Greer has resigned his War Eagle hoop duties.
Greer, who has spent the past five seasons at the Atwood High School, told The Messenger Thursday  his desires to watch his son play collegiately at Austin Peay was a factor in his decision.
Thomas Greer, a 6-5 swingman who is a finalist for Class A Mr. Basketball, inked with APSU during the early signing period. He scored over 2,000 points and grabbed more than 1,000 rebounds as a four-year starter for his father.
He averaged 28 points and nine rebounds this past season when the War Eagles won the District 13A championship.
The elder Greer, who spent two years at Obion Central before resigning just six games into the 2004-05 season, said he planned to remain at West Carroll in a yet-to-be-determined capacity. He is married to former Union City High School girls’ basketball standout Debbie Christian, and the couple has a daughter, Addy, who joined the UT Martin program this season when the Skyhawks were short on bodies.
Greer, who also coached the junior high at WCHS since his arrival, indicated he could keep those duties.
