Union City police are investigating the robbery of a local woman whose purse was snatched Sunday morning in the Save-A-Lot parking lot on Nailling Drive.
The 74-year-old Union City woman told police she was attempting to put her groceries in her vehicle when she was approached by a black male who was riding a bicycle and who asked to help her with her groceries, according to a Union City Police Department report.
She said she told the man she did not need help and said he then grabbed her purse. She told police she tried to hold on to the purse but the strap broke and the man rode off with the purse, according to the report.
The victim told police she last saw the man riding north on Nash Street toward East Gate Village. She described him as a young black man wearing a black hoodie and riding a yellow bicycle.
The incident apparently occurred between about 11:30 and 11:45 a.m. Sunday.
