Musical events slated at UT Martin

Posted: Thursday, March 18, 2010 9:56 pm

Two musical events have been set by the Department of Music at the University of Tennessee at Martin.
The University Trio will be featured in a program of contemporary chamber music by American composers at 7:30 p.m. March 25 at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Martin.
Members of the trio are flutist Dr. Elaine Harriss, clarinetist Dr. Amy Simmons and pianist Delana Easley.
They will perform “Night Music” composed by Lowell Liebermann in 2009 and premiered at the National Flute Convention that same year. “Not a Sonata,” composed by Gary Eskow in 2005, was commissioned by the Palisades Virtuosi and pays homage to Poulenc, Ray Charles and the movie music of the 1960s. Karel Husa, a naturalized American citizen, composed “8 Bohemian Sketches” for piano duet in 1955.
On March 30, the UT Martin Department of Music’s percussion studio will present a concert of unconducted chamber music at 7:30 p.m. in Campbell Auditorium of Holt Humanities Building.
Each member of the studio will perform in a combination of duos, trios and more. The performance will feature compositions of tangos from Argentina to acrobatics around the marimba.
Both events are free.
