The Messenger, March 19, 2010
A 17-year-old boy has been charged in connection with a Sunday morning purse-snatching incident on the Save-A-Lot parking lot on Nailling Drive in Union City.
The teenager, who lists a Jackson address, was arrested at 4:54 p.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of East Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and charged with robbery, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Police reported the juvenile was taken into custody following a foot pursuit in the area of the Nash Street basketball courts.
The robbery apparently occurred between about 11:30 and 11:45 a.m. Sunday while a 74-year-old Union City woman was attempting to put her groceries in her vehicle. The woman told police she was approached by a black male who was riding a bicycle and who asked to help her with her groceries, according to a police report.
She said she told the man she did not need help and said he then grabbed her purse. She told police she tried to hold on to the purse but the strap broke and the man rode off with the purse.
