UTM rodeo teams finish in first and second places

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s team scored 445 points and won this past weekend’s Northwest Mississippi Community College rodeo in Senatobia. The UT Martin men’s team finished second with 525 points.
Heather Moore led the women’s team to the victory by winning the barrel racing average with a total time of 30.19 on two runs. She won the first go with a time of 15.09 and the second go with a time of 15.10.
Brittany Pratt split first in the breakaway roping with a total time of 6.7 on two runs. She won the first go with a time of 2.8 and was fifth in the second go with a time of 3.9. Pratt also helped teammate Jordan Thrasher pick up points in the team roping.
Thrasher earned points for UT Martin in three events — the steer wrestling, the calf roping and the team roping.
Thrasher was fifth in the steer wrestling average with a time of 15.7 on two runs. He was third in the second go with a time of 6.5. He was eighth in the calf-roping average with a total time of 38.6 on two runs. Teaming with Pratt, Thrasher split third and fourth in the team roping. The UT Martin header and healer turned in a total time of 22.6 on two runs. They were second in the first go with a time of 8.4 and third in the second go with a time of 14.2.
UT Martin’s Chase Miller won the saddle bronc average with 164 points on two rides. He won the first go with a 79-point ride and the second go with an 85-point ride. Evan Alley finished sixth in the average. Alley was fifth in the second-go with a 66-point ride.
UT Martin’s Josh Chase split third and fourth in the bareback average. He was second in the first go with a 74-point ride and fourth in the second go with a 71-point ride. Casey Cason finished seventh in the average. Cason picked up 10 points for UT Martin with his sixth-place finish in the first-go.
The UT Martin rodeo teams return to action April 9 at Mississippi State. The University of Tennessee at Martin’s 42nd annual Spring College Rodeo is set for April 15-17 at the Ned Ray McWherter Agricultural Complex on campus. Advance tickets are on sale now through April 12 at select locations in West Tennessee.
The advance ticket outlets include: UT Martin’s Boling University Center, Weakley Farmers Co-op, Cowboy Cafe; Fairview Saddlery in Dresden; Gleason’s Weakley Farmers Co-op; Union City’s Wood Communications Wireless Source and Greenfield’s Brawner Boots.
Ticket prices are $10 for adults ($8 in advance) and $7 for children’s tickets ($6 in advance). Children ages 5 and under get in for free with a paid adult. Student tickets are $7 ($6 in advance) with an ID. Weekend passes are available, in advance only, for $18 for all three performances.
