G’field tennis scorches Fillies
Due to rainy weather, the Lady Yellowjackets tennis team had to wait a few extra days to take on the Huntingdon Fillies, but when they finally met, Greenfield took full advantage.
Playing, in essence, a doubleheader on Friday at Skyhawk Courts in Martin, Greenfield swept a pair of 7-0 wins from the Fillies to advance its record to 6-0.
In the first round of matches, 8-0 victories were commonplace for the Lady Jackets. That score was the deciding margin at No. 1 singles where Katie McCall downed Huntingdon’s Caroline Parish; at No. 2 singles where Mallory Robinson blanked Sara Milam; at No. 4 singles where Emily Allen shut out Kayla White; and in both doubles matches. In No. 1 doubles, Greenfield’s McCall/Robinson whitewashed Parish and Milam, while at No. 2 doubles, it was Lady Jackets Allen and Hannah Mosely over Ward and White.
In the other singles matches, at No. 3, Greenfield’s Haley Perkins stopped Ashley Ward, 8-1. Huntingdon only had four players, so the Fillies had to forfeit the point at No. 5 singles.
In the second set of matches, McCall sat out and everyone else played up. The results were still heavily in Greenfield’s favor.
At No. 1 singles, Robinson blanked Parish, 8-0. At No. 2 singles, Perkins downed Milam, 8-1. At No. 3 singles, Allen stopped Ward, 8-1, and at No. 4 singles, Mosely swept past White, 8-0.
In doubles play, the GHS duo of Robinson and Perkins stopped Parish/Milam, 8-0 at No. 1. At No. 2 doubles, Mosely and Allen combined to defeat Ward and White, 8-1.
