In a battle of Lady Bulldogs, it was the orange-and-black clad team from Gleason that took a pair of softball wins from Fulton City’s canine crew in softball action on March 29. The host Gleason Lady Bulldogs first took an 8-3 win before an 11-0 shutout. In the opening game, the top of the GHS line-up got busy early. Leadoff batter Calay Smith roped a double and scored. Heather Bowles was hit by a pitch for the first of two times. Smith and Bowles both advanced on a passed ball. Taylor Stout added a double and all three touched home plate for a 3-0 lead after an inning. Gleason added four runs in the third inning. Stout and Briana Jones both tripled and scored. Bowles was hit by a pitch and scored. Sami Verdell singled and scored. The last GHS run came in the fourth when Haley Collins reached on an error and came home for an 8-0 lead. Fulton tried to rally with five runs in the fifth before Gleason shut the door. In the finale, GHS starter Alicyn Martin pitched a one-hitter in the 11-0 win. Smith and Bowles each scored three runs. Smith was 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles. |
