Union City softball
leaving Fla. winners

The Union City softball team finished with its head above water and a 3-2 record at the Beach Blast in Fort Walton, Beach, Fla.
The Lady Twisters, who won their first game of the event on Easter Sunday before falling in single contests on both Monday and Tuesday, downed Kentucky entries Campbellsville (11-0) and Washington County (6-3) on Wednesday.
During the shutout of C’ville, Paige Fisher had three hits with a double and two singles as did Kaitlyn Wheeles.
Wheeles drove in a total of three runs, while Taylor Hargrove tripled and chased home a pair. Allison Bruff also had two RBI for the Lady Twisters (6-7) against Campbellsville.
Katie Hawks was the winning pitcher.
In the win over WC, Katie Townes homered and singled, while Hannah Jackson had three hits — a triple included.
Meanwhile, Bruff accounted for a double and two safeties, Angela Chesteen tripled and Wheeles smacked a two-bagger.
Karly Hollis struck out 11 en route to the mound victory.

Class 1A All-State
features area players

Mr. Basketball finalist Thomas Greer of West Carroll and Humboldt teammates Darren Dunbar and Quan Campbell represented rural West Tennessee on the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Class A All-State team, released today.
Greer, an Austin Peay signee, helped WC to the District 13A championship, while the Dunbar/Campbell duo led H’boldt to the state tournament for the fifth time in the last six seasons.
Middleton’s Sharon Morgan was selected to the Class 1A girls glitter unit after helping the Lady Tigers to the state semifinals.
The Class 2A TSWA All-State squad for both boys and girls will be released on Friday, with the triple-team released on Saturday.

MTSU hoop star
gets WNBA invite

MURFREESBORO (AP) — Middle Tennessee senior forward Alysha Clark is one of 14 players invited to participate in the 2010 WNBA Draft.
Clark was named a second-team All-American by The Associated Press after finishing the 2009-10 season as the nation’s top scorer with a school- and Sun Belt-record 28.3 points per game.
Clark is the third Blue Raiders player to be invited to the draft.
The draft is tonight.
