Robb pitches WHS to win
Robb pitches WHS to win | Westview Lady Chargers softball, Katelyn Bowen, Crockett County Lady Cavaliers, Shaylon Robb, Martin, Tennessee

Insurance run — Westview’s Katelyn Bowen slides to home plate with the Lady Chargers’ third run in their 3-1 victory over the visiting Crockett County Lady Cavaliers on Thursday afternoon at the Martin Recreation Complex. Photo by Sara
Taking an early 2-1 lead, the Westview defense kept the Crockett County girls’ bats in check for the remainder of the contest and the Lady Chargers held on for a 3-1 win this past Thursday at the Martin Recreation Complex in Martin.
The Lady Chargers put two runs on the board early in the second inning, but the Lady Cavaliers lit up the scoreboard in the top of the third when a batter walked in to cut the score in half, 2-1. In the bottom of the inning, Crockett County forced two groundouts and Ashley Bynum flew out to end the third.
With Shaylon Robb leading the charge for WHS from the mound, she forced two groundouts and a strikeout by the Lady Cavs in the top of the fourth. Jenna Hazelwood flew out to the pitcher, but Katelyn Bowen singled to right field and came in to score on a Mary Kirk Mesimer’s RBI double to make the score 3-1 in favor of the hosts.
Robb sat down three straight in the visitors’ half of the fifth. In the Lady Chargers’ fifth-inning atbat, Kelly Gaston walked, but Westview’s offense stalled. Despite stranding the runner, the Lady Chargers maintained a 3-1 edge after five innings.
Crockett County could do nothing in the sixth, but neither could the Lady Chargers and in the top of the seventh Robb forced a strikeout and two pop ups to put a lid on the Westview victory.
