‘The Curious Savage’ set for April 29-May 2

Posted: Tuesday, April 20, 2010 2:00 pm

The University of Tennessee at Martin Vanguard Theatre will present its opening performance of “The Curious Savage,” at 8 p.m., April 29, on the stage in the Student Life Center. Additional performances will be at 8 p.m., April 30, May 1, and 3 p.m., May 2.
In the story, Mrs. Savage has been left $10 million by her late husband and wants to use it to help people who might not be able to realize their hopes and dreams.
Her grown-up stepchildren want to get her money and form a plan to have her committed to a “sanatorium” hoping to “bring her to her senses” and take charge of the millions.
In the sanatorium, Savage meets a collection of social misfits who cannot adjust to life. She and her new found friends lead the stepchildren on a merry chase, enabling Savage to carry out her plans.
UT Martin cast members include Erica C. Miller, of Martin; Davida Ambrose, of Memphis; Todd Hill, of Charlotte; Justin Hunt, of Martin; Leighanna Sims, of Dyer; Laken Smith, of Pulaski; Brent Harris, of Martin; Jordan Hensley, of Hohenwald; Gabriel Mary Lewis, of Jackson; Ian Gray, of Memphis; and Lizzie Wouters, of Knoxville. Ken Zimmerman, lecturer of visual and theatre arts, directs the production.
Tickets, only available at the door, will be on sale two hours before each performance begins. Tickets are $5 for students and children and $10 for adults. For more information, contact the Department of Visual and Theatre Arts at 731-881-7090.
