Flower enthusiasts welcome
The celebration of the state’s flower is a tradition in Dresden. That tradition has been long-standing for more than three decades and the City of Dresden will once again host its annual celebration.
Included among the carnival rides, vendor fairs, tastings and parade is the annual Tennessee Iris Festival Flower Show.
This year’s flower show will feature 87 categories for horticulture enthusiasts.
Entries for the Tennessee Iris Festival Flower Show will be accepted beginning at 7:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 30. The doors will close to the public at 9:45 a.m. while judges determine the best flower in each category.
The entries will be on display from 1 until 5 p.m. on Saturday. The event is set to take place at the Dresden First Baptist Church Family Life Center at 409 Morrow St. in Dresden.
Categories range from indoor ferns to peonies, coleus, amaryllis and azaleas. Of course, several categories remain for the iris including tall, bearded iris of one color and of mixed color as well as Dutch and Japanese iris.
The Dresden FFA will also host its 7th Annual Plant Sale beginning at 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day this week and until noon on Saturday. The sale includes a variety of garden, bedding and hanging plants.
The 31st Annual Tennessee Iris Festival will kick off this Saturday with a citywide yard sale and opening ceremony.
The annual Cemetery Walk is set for Sunday. Dresden Elementary School will host a prayer breakfast at 7 a.m. Monday, April 26. The Tasting Party will take place from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Dresden Elks Lodge on Monday, April 26. The carnival begins Tuesday, April 27 in Dresden.
Visit www.tennesseeirisfestival.com or www.nwtntoday.com for a flower show brochure and complete schedule of events.
