Delphian Review Club holds meeting

Posted: Thursday, April 22, 2010 8:02 pm

The Delphian Review Club met recently in the home of the late Kathleen Elam with Betty Smith as hostess and Judi Pitts as co-hostess.
President Carolyn Bloebaum presided.
The thought of the day, given by chaplain Maggie Vaughan, reflected on April showers and challenged club members to be thankful for the abundant sources of water in America and to be aware of the scarcity of water all over the world.
Roll call was answered by 15 members who named a Mid-Eastern dish.
Jeannine Cranford gave a fascinating program on “The Life and Times of Bedouin Women.” She came dressed as a Bedouin woman and showed many items that she had purchased from the Bedouin people while living in the Middle East. She touched briefly on when the nomadic life began during Bible times; how the woman made the tents and set them up; how they did all the cooking and tended to the herds of goats and sheep. She explained that marriages were arranged and why the women wear the black veils.
Mrs. Cranford had just returned from a trip to the Holy Land and had been treated to lunch by the Bedouin ladies at a Bedouin camp, which was part of the tour.
Following the program, lemon cheesecake, garnished with fresh strawberries and mint, was served.
