The Messenger 04.28.10 Three students from Obion County were among those recently recognized at the University of Tennessee at Martin’s 46th annual Honors Day. Jaymini D. Dave of South Fulton received the Faculty Women’s Club Scholarship Award, an award of $500 given in recognition of the academic excellence of students who have achieved senior status. Selection is made by a committee of the club and is based primarily on academic achievement, financial need, citizenship and leadership. Trenessa L. Wood of Union City received the Outstanding University Studies Student Award. Michael S. Yandell of Union City received the Outstanding Music Student Award and the Harry Neal Memorial Award, given to recognize an outstanding piano major in the UT Martin Department of Music. The recipient is chosen by the piano faculty and the department chair on the basis of performance growth and grades received during the year. — — — Darrin Howard, son of Jana Howard of Union City and Robert Howard of Woodland Mills, has been awarded a scholarship to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin. Howard, who will be a freshman, received the UTM McWhorter Scholarship/Workship. — — — Lindsey Thompson of Mayfield, Ky., has been chosen as the recipient of a Lennox International Inc. academic scholarship. The National Merit Scholarship Corp. oversees the selection and notification of the awards, with nine students from LII locations across the U.S. chosen after thorough evaluation of their academic records throughout high school, qualities of leadership, extracurricular accomplishments, test scores, school recommendations and the students’ self-described interests and goals.— — —Abby T. Cruce of Union City recently received the Outstanding Educational Studies K-6 Student Award during the 46th annual Honors Day at the University of Tennessee at Martin.— — —Tianda V. Harris of South Fulton recently received the Outstanding Senior Management, Marketing, Computer Science and Information Systems Student Award during the 46th annual Honors Day at the University of Tennessee at Martin.— — —Cortney C. Moore of Union City recently received the Student Group of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Award during the 46th annual Honors Day at the University of Tennessee at Martin. The award is presented to a sophomore, junior or senior family and consumer sciences student who is a member of the student group of AAFCS. The recipient is chosen on the basis of leadership activities in the association and potential for becoming a successful professional.
— — —Jacob L. Eddlemon of Kenton recently received the Lonnie E. Maness History Department Award during the 46th annual Honors Day at the University of Tennessee at Martin. The award of $100 is given to the outstanding graduating history major. Selection is made on the basis of grade point average, number of hours in history, contributions to the department and extracurricular activities.
