G’field tennis productive in road trip
The Greenfield Lady Yellowjacket tennis team was victorious twice when it battled both the conditions and the Obion County Central Lady Rebels. Greenfield went to Union City Tuesday to take on Obion County at the Fairgrounds. The rain was threatening, the temperature was dropping, and the wind was blowing, but the Lady Jackets won every match played and beat Obion County 6-0. The final doubles match was not played because of time constraints. With the victory, Greenfield clinched its second straight 12-0 season.
In singles, No. 1 Lady Jacket and future UT Martin Skyhawk Katie McCall, outplayed Samantha Scott, 8-0. At No. 2 singles, Lady Jacket Mallory Robinson had few problems and shut out Kacee Sanders, 8-0. Lady Jacket, Meagan Porter played her usual steady game at No. 3 singles and downed Allison Reddin, 8-0.  At No. 4, Greenfield’s Emily Allen allowed her opponent three games before stepping it up and beating Marissa Howard, 8-3.
At No. 5 singles, the Jackets’ Hannah Mosely pinned a 6-1 defeat on Katobia Ervin.  Their match was shortened from a pro set to a regular set due to time constraints.
One doubles match was played and the other cancelled due to lack of time. In the No. 1 doubles match, Greenfield’s McCall teamed with Haley Perkins to shut out the Obion County duo of Scott and Warren, 6-0.
There was a lone extra singles match that did not count toward the team totals. At No. 6 singles, Greenfield’s Taylor Hatcher beat Lady Rebel Chelsea Mathis, 6-0.
The next tennis action for the Lady Jackets will be in the District 13 A-AA individual tournament at Bethel University on May 1 and 3.
