Martin man charged with killing senior citizen
A Martin man has been charged and indicted on the January murder of a Martin senior citizen after months of investigation by the Martin Police Department and several other agencies. According to a press release issued by the MPD Tuesday, the Weakley County Grand Jury has issued a four-count indictment for Roger Blevins, 50, of 616 N. McCombs St. in Martin for his alleged involvement in the homicide of 78-year-old James Monroe Terry. The release cites Terry was found strangled in his home on Friday, Jan. 5 of this year. An initial release by the department states one of Terry’s daughters found in his home around 6:30 a.m. and officers found evidence that led them to believe his back door had been tampered with and declared a forced entry had taken place. The MPD is not releasing specific details about the crime relative to motive and method pending the prosecution of the case. Blevins is charged with felony murder, first degree murder, especially aggravated burglary and robbery. He was arrested Jan. 26 by the MPD after a federal indictment had been returned Jan. 23 charging Blevins with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Blevins has pled guilty to the federal charge and is awaiting sentencing in federal court. Agencies handling the federal investigation include the MPD and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Blevins is being held at a federal prison facility in Mason. An arraignment date in Weakley County Circuit Court has not been scheduled.
