Business summit scheduled

The University of Tennessee at Martin Regional Entrepreneurship and Economic Development Center, Dyersburg State Community College Tennessee Small Business Development Center and WestStar Leadership will host the fourth annual MidSouth Economic and Business Development Summit from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. May 18 in Boling University Center at UT Martin.
The theme will be “Economic Development: Your Community Lifesaver.”
The registration fee is $50 and includes continental breakfast, materials and a luncheon.
Registration and a continental breakfast, sponsored by University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Ser-vices, are slated from 8-8:30 a.m. The program will be opened at 8:30 by Dr. Jamie Frakes, director of DSCC Tennessee Small Business Development Center; Dr. Tom Rakes, UT Martin chancellor; and Hollie Holt, REED Center director.
“Making the Ordinary Extraordinary: Marketing Your Community” is set for 8:45-9:30, presented by Frakes. “West Tennessee MegaSite Update,” presented by A. Franklin Smith, Haywood County mayor, and Duane Lavery, HTL Advantage chief executive officer, is slated for 9:35-10:15.
After a break, Trent Fleming of Trent Fleming Consulting of Germantown will present “Banking and the Rural Community” from 10:30-11:15. Fleming works as an adviser to financial institutions on matters such as strategic planning, business continuity, employee education and training and operational efficiency. His background includes correspondent banking, regulatory compliance and industry experience as a sales operations executive with two large banking software vendors.
From 11:20 a.m.-noon, Steve Holt, director of UT Martin Instructional Technology Center and Web Services, will present, “44 1⁄2 Things You Can Do With Google.”
During the luncheon from 12:15-1:45, Dr. Dale Henry, author of “The Proverbial Cracker Jack: How to Get Out of The Box And Become The Prize,” will be the keynote speaker. Henry has been a teacher, principal, dean of the oldest college in Tennessee, businessman, author, speaker and trainer.
