Chargers blanked in baseball season finale
The Westview Chargers’ baseball season came to an end in an District 13-AA tourney with a 10-0 five-inning opening round loss to the host Covington Chargers Thursday afternoon.
Westview (10-19) gave the hosts too many gifts, offering up multiple walks and errors of both the mental and physical variety.
In spite of the final outcome, it appeared Westview took the game’s first lead in the top of the first inning. With Adam Garner at first base, Travis Garner smoked a double that brought Adam Garner all the way home. However, an appeal that he didn’t touch third base was fulfilled for the third out to end the threat.
Travis Garner was the starter for WHS, but didn’t get out of the second inning. He walked the bases full and was replaced on the mound by Adam Garner. Garner gave up a double, but an errant throw compounded the hit and cleared the bases for a 4-0 Covington lead.
Covington kept rolling until it tallied the necessary 10 runs to end the contest in five innings.
The game was the final one in a Charger uniform for four WHS seniors — Travis Garner, Adam Garner, Bryton Ramsey and Taylor Weber.
