Burglary rash ends in arrest
A string of thefts at a local apartment complex has led to the arrest of three people in connection with the burglaries by the Martin Police Department.
According to a press release issued by the department, officers were called to the Chapel Ridge apartment complex off of Ellis Street Saturday around 7 p.m. for a report of an individual being robbed just outside of his apartment. Apparently, three individuals approached the victim in the parking lot of the complex demanding his wallet. The incident report cites the robbers told him they had a gun and would shoot him if he did not cooperate.
The victim reportedly handed over his wallet and had three credit cards and a food stamp card stolen by the perpetrators. After also taking 24 cents from the victim, the thieves reportedly gave his wallet back to him and fled the scene on foot.
A press release states within minutes of responding to Chapel Ridge apartments for the aggravated robbery call, a second 911 call came through reporting another robbery on Lester Lane located behind the apartment complex. A woman was walking on Lester Lane when she was taken to the ground by three individuals trying to steal her purse. Seeing nothing of value, the robbers discarded her purse only to take her cell phone and later throw it down, according to the incident report. The three individuals once again fled the scene on foot.
Another phone call reporting a car burglary came through to the department during their investigation at Chapel Ridge apartments. Apparently, another person at the apartment complex became a victim when his window of his vehicle was smashed with a cement block and a blue iPod was stolen from the vehicle, according to an incident report.
MPD Lt. Jason Arant and his shift officers developed leads in the cases, which led to the arrest of three subjects within hours of the incidents.
A press release states at 9:30 that night, MPD investigators arrested Ricky Booker, 18, his brother Cordney Booker, 20, both of Old Fulton Road in Martin and a 17-year-old Dyersburg juvenile.
They were each charged with robbery, aggravated robbery, theft of property and burglary from a vehicle. The Booker brothers were also charged with criminal responsibility for the conduct of a minor. Some of the property reported stolen was recovered from the robbers at the time of their arrests.
The two adults will be arraigned this week in Weakley County General Sessions Court while the juvenile awaits a hearing in Weakley County Juvenile Court.
The MPD is seeking information in two more thefts that were reported over the weekend. According to an incident report, a Hewlett-Packard laptop computer was stolen from an apartment on Ivie Lane in Martin sometime between Nov. 22 and Nov. 24. There were reportedly no signs of forced entry and the home was locked.
Officers are also investigating the alleged theft of jewelry from an apartment at Bradley Hill apartment complex. According to an incident report, the victim said the last time she was wearing a silver diamond ring, gold hoop earrings and a set of gold diamond earrings was Oct. 22. The approximate value of the jewelry is $700.
