UT softball’s winningest season ends without NCAA bid
UT softball’s winningest season ends without NCAA bid | The University of Tennessee at Martin, softball, NCAA Tournament, Martin, Tennessee, Donley Canary

CANARY
MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team’s winningest season in history came to a close much earlier than anticipated when the Skyhawks failed to hear their name called during the NCAA Tournament Selection Show Sunday night. UT Martin finishes the year with a record of 47-11, which is more wins than 60 of the 64 teams in the field.
The Ohio Valley Conference regular season champion Skyhawks were upset in the OVC Tournament by Jacksonville State, which earned the league’s automatic bid and will face No. 8 Georgia Tech in the Atlanta Regional.
“There were a number of really good teams that did not make the tournament this year, I just hate that we were one of them,” said UT Martin head coach Donley Canary. “I really hate it for the seniors on our team. They have done so much to build our program to this level and deserved the chance to be on the field.”
The Skyhawks will now turn their attention to the offseason and rebuilding for a push at another OVC crown.
They will have a challenge to replace this senior class though, as with it graduates four single-season and 12 career record holders, who combined to become the all-time winningest class in school history with 143 wins.
Canary’s Skyhawks will return four position starters, three of which were All-OVC selections, next season along with starting pitcher and All-OVC First Team designated player Kate Vanderham to go with a highly regarded recruiting class.
