Letter to WCP Editor – 7.20.10

Posted: Wednesday, July 21, 2010 8:02 pm

Dear Editor,
I must comment on the editorial titled “Candidates issue conflicting statements” from the Thursday, July 15 paper. There are several problems starting with the false statement that, “the public was not encouraged to attend.”
There was a notice in the paper and many announcements on the radio because the MC of the debate was the radio announcer.
Next, this was the longest editorial I’ve seen in your paper and like the hit piece of last week, he used almost the whole thing as a personal attack against the candidates, not their position on any issues.
My first thought as the old saying goes, “If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance baffle them with bull,” but as I read it over and over I realized I’d seen this tactic before.
In Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” (the Bible of the far left), Pages 127 to 134, he talks about tactics to use to shut down your enemy.
• Rule #4 – “Make your enemy live up to his own book of rules.”
In other words, we all fall short of the Grace of God, but if the enemy isn’t perfect you can always find something to criticize.
• Rule #5: “Ridicule is a mans most potent weapon.” It’s almost impossible to overcome well-crafted ridicule whether it’s based on half truth or outright lies.
If this guy has a PhD in American History, he should know about these tactics. Although I was surprised he mentioned their bad breath.
All I know is I have never seen anyone attak a Democrat with this type of personal attack in your paper. There are plenty of issues to cite and talk about.
