United Way distributes $115,000 to area agencies

“People Helping People” is the motto of the Obion County United Way, which is exactly what the organization did with the $115,000 raised during the past fiscal year.
The organization recently held its annual pay-out ceremony at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City (see related photo, Page 2) and distributed the money to 21 local agencies, including Boy Scouts of America, Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Tennessee, Crime Stoppers, Obion County Red Cross, Obion County Transient Ministry, Obion County Literacy Council, Obion County Rescue Squad, Obion County Office of Aging, Salvation Army, Northwest Safeline, University of Tennessee at Martin Infant Stimulation, Habitat for Humanity, Agape House, Community Developmental Services, Chimes for Charity, Lions Club, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Hometown Walk of Hope.
“These agencies mean a lot to United Way and a lot to Obion County,” said president Kurt Baggett. “It is very important going into the 2010 campaign to spread the word on how important United Way is to these local agencies.”
The main source of fund raising for United Way comes from payroll reductions, Baggett said.
