Workforce Development announces new director

Margaret Prater has been named the new executive director of Workforce Development, Dyersburg State Community College President Karen Bowyer has announced.
The director works with the Northwest Tennessee Workforce Development Board that oversees the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program.
Mrs. Prater succeeds Henry Lewis, who left the post to become deputy director of the City of Memphis Workforce Investment Network program.
Mrs. Prater, who was assistant director for administrative services for the WIA, began working for the WIA as a management information specialist in 1983 when the program was known as the Job Training Partnership Act. Since then, she has worked as an information control systems specialist, a planner/training specialist, assistant to the director and master trainer.
“Margaret has prepared for this new position over the past 27 years,” Dr. Bowyer said. “She is highly respected in the state and in the Southern region for her expertise in managing the finances and other administrative tasks of the Workforce program. I am confident that she and the other highly productive WIA staff members will take the program to an even higher level of effectiveness.”
Mrs. Prater lives in Trimble with her husband, Dennis. They have two adult children and three grandchildren.
Lewis also began working for the Job Training Partnership Act in 1983. He served as director of the program since 1985 and retired as DSCC vice president for Workforce Development.
