LIFE-LONG ACHIEVEMENTS – Col. Bob Smith of Martin (center) was honored on Saturday, Aug. 14 by the City of Martin and the Martin Beautiful Committee. Smith was joined by his wife Gwen (left) while Martin Vice Mayor Danny Nanney and alderman Terry Hankins present a plaque to one of the region’s most knowledged historians and leader in the black community. Aug. 14 was declared “Col. Bob Smith Day” and a special metal picnic table in Smith’s honor was placed at Virginia Weldon Park in downtown Martin.
