Product recalls announced

Posted: Thursday, September 2, 2010 8:01 pm

By The Associated Press
The following recalls have been announced:
• About 18,500 magnetic maze boards, manufactured in China by Lakeshore Learning Materials of Carson, Calif., because the wand can separate and expose a magnet. This could pose a choking hazard. Also if more than one magnet is swallowed, the magnets can attract each other and cause potentially fatal intestinal perforations or blockages. The company has received 10 reports of detached magnets, but no reports of injuries. The boards were sold at Lakeshore Learning Materials stores nationwide, as well as through the company’s website and catalog, between January 2009 and May 2010. Details: by phone at 800-428-4414; online at http://www.cpsc.gov.
• About 25,000 slow cookers, made in China and imported and distributed by Sensio Inc. of Montreal, because the slow cookers’ control panels can overheat and melt. This poses as a fire hazard to consumers. No injuries have been reported. The company said it has received 60 reports of the control panels smoking, melting and sparking. It also received three reports of panels catching fire. Fourteen incidents resulted in minor damage to countertops. The recall involves the Bella Kitchen 5-quart programmable slow cookers, with model number WJ-5000DE and date codes 0907 or 0909. The product was sold at Kohl’s stores from July 2009 through December 2009. Details: by phone 888-296-9675; online at http://www.cpsc.gov.
• About 9,000 Sharp 32-inch LCD TVs, manufactured in China by Sharp Electronics Corporation of Mahwah, N.J., because the neck support can break and allow the televisions to tip over. No incidents have been reported. The TVs were sold by major retailers nationwide from March 2010 through August 2010. Details: by phone at 800-291-4289; online at http://www.sharpusa.com or http://www.cpsc.gov.
